Windows 7's Power Efficiency Report can help you sniff out potential problems. To run the diagnostics, simply follow these steps:
1. Click on the Start Button and type in 'CMD'
2. Right-click on CMD and select 'Run as administrator'
3. type in 'powercfg -energy' and press Enter
4. Exit the Command prompt
5. Go to the 'C:\Windows\System32' folder
6. Look for the 'energy-report.html' file and move it to another
location (you will not be able to open it in the System32 folder)
Once you open the file, you will see detailed information about what system devices or settings may be affecting your power management.
